Theory & Approach to Change

Theory & Approach to Change

We are practitioners of Emergent Strategy, which is a strategy for building patterns and systems of change through relatively small interactions. It is a practice in how we intentionally change in ways that grow our capacity to embody the just and liberated worlds for which we long; and additionally strengthens our imaginations and the capacity to think beyond the limitations of socialization – beyond competition, beyond binaries, and beyond linear, and short-term outcomes.

Our approach is through the lens and framework of Transformative Justice. Transformative Justice is a series of practices and philosophies focused on creating change in social systems. The practice promotes the framework that interpersonal harm reflects systemic and institutional dimensions of oppression.

TJ engages the practice and/or social environment as the focus for change, often considering the following areas:

  • Assessing critical organizational areas

  • Individual leadership roles

  • Power structure

  • Designing interventions that support sustainable transformation.

while centering these three core beliefs:

  • Individual and collective liberation are equally important, mutually supportive, and fundamentally intertwined.

  • The conditions that allow oppression and exclusion to occur must be transformed to achieve justice in individual and collective experiences of oppression.

  • Systemic responses to oppression not only fail to advance individual and collective justice, but also condone and perpetuate cycles of oppression, discrimination, and marginalization.

Equity Centered Pricing

Equity-Centered Pricing - This trust-based model sets prices that offer equity and sustainability as a practice of Transformative Justice. Through this version of mutual aid, both practitioners and clients can be supported.
